This winter, King County Metro Transit will use Twitter and the King County News Blog to complement Metro’s new array of communication tools.
Last month, Metro debuted a new system of alerts and online info to help customers be “in the know” about riding Metro when it snows, or when transit service is disrupted by other significant events. The best place to get info on transit disruptions will always be Metro’s Alerts Center, or by calling the Customer Information Office at (206) 553-3000.
When snow is on the way or on the ground, Metro will use Twitter to point followers to the changing info in the Alerts Center and phone lines. Metro tweeters will watch what Twitter users are saying and pass along any useful information to the Metro operations staff. While we won’t be able respond directly to tweets about individual bus trips, we will make every effort to point you to the very best information available. And, we’ll tweet tips to help people make travel plans.
Metro will also post information on the King County News Blog about using transit when it snows, and keep an eye on the comments we receive from customers.
During times of normal bus operations, the tweets and blog posts will be less frequent, and Metro’s Alerts Center will still be the best place to check.
So what can you do to keep connected with Metro?
#1 – Sign up for Metro Transit Alerts;
#2 – Check out the new or revised snow routing for the bus routes you use most often;
#3 – Bookmark the Metro Transit Alerts Center on your computer or web-enabled phone;
#4 – Follow us on Twitter @kcmetrobus;
#5 – Visit the King County News Blog for periodic updates;
#6 – Check conditions before you travel; dress for the weather; and expect that there will probably be delays for buses if traffic is moving slowly.
Thanks for staying in touch with us, and – as always – thanks for riding Metro!
